Another reason that I am studying Japanese is so that I can explore potential career opportunities among Japanese companies and research groups. A lot of cutting edge developments that I find very interesting are taking place in Japan, so having experience with the language will be a helpful skill if I plan on working with or at a tech site in Japan.

Why I'm Studying Japanese
Although I'm planning on majoring in Mechanical Engineering, I decided to take Japanese as one of my non-technical electives. I have visited Japan in the past and plan to return again with it being one of my favorite vacation sites. For one thing, I love the food. Trying out different local ramen shops is easily one of my favorite options when I'm hungry. I also find the shopping districts to be very well suited to things that I'm interested in. Arcades and technology stores have much more prominence in certain parts of Tokyo than I'm used to, which I'm a big fan of.
